How to Calibrate an Electronic Hi-Hat on the 2BOX DrumIt3 / DrumIt5

How to Calibrate an Electronic Hi-Hat on the 2BOX DrumIt3 / DrumIt5

🔹 Step 1: Connect the Hardware Properly

  1. Hi-Hat Pad → Plug into the input labeled HHP on the back of the module.

  2. Hi-Hat Controller Pedal → Plug into the input labeled HHC.

  3. Make sure all cables are securely connected and not loose.

💡 Tip: The 2BOX module supports certain controller types. Make sure your hi-hat controller is compatible (e.g., Roland VH-11, VH-10, or 2BOX-branded hats).

🔹 Step 2: Initial Sound Test

  1. Power on the module.

  2. Hit the hi-hat pad while pressing and releasing the pedal.

  3. You should hear:

    • Open hi-hat when pedal is fully up.

    • Closed hi-hat when fully down.

    • Chick sound when pressing pedal without striking.

  4. If all three trigger types work, move to fine calibration.
If not — continue to step 3.

🔹 Step 3: Enter Calibration Mode

  1. Press UNIT on the module to enter settings.

  2. Use the dial to navigate to HIHAT or TRIG (depends on firmware version).

  3. Choose CALIBRATE HI-HAT or a similar option.

🔹 Step 4: Calibrate Open/Closed Positions

  1. Follow the on-screen instructions:

    • Step 1: Raise the pedal fully (open position) → press button to confirm.

    • Step 2: Press pedal fully down (closed position) → confirm.

  2. The module saves the range and calibrates response curve.

💡 Tip: You can recalibrate at any time if your pedal feels off or your playing space changes (e.g., new rug, stand shift).

🔹 Step 5: Adjust Trigger Settings (Optional Fine-Tuning)

  1. Go to TRIG → HHP (Hi-Hat Pad):

    • Gain – controls sensitivity.

    • Threshold – ignore low-level hits.

    • Curve – adjust response feel (Linear, Exp1, Log).

  2. Go to TRIG → HHC (Hi-Hat Control):

    • Adjust HiHat Type (VH-11, Pedal, etc.) depending on your gear.

    • Tweak CC Min/Max values if needed.

🔹 Step 6: Save Settings

  1. Exit settings and save kit configuration.

  2. Test various articulations:

    • Tip and edge hits (open/closed/semi-open).

    • Foot chick and splash.

🔹 Troubleshooting Tips

  • Hi-hat stuck closed or open? Recalibrate the pedal or check CC values.

  • Latency or inconsistent response? Try lowering gain or threshold.

  • Wrong sounds triggering? Verify that the hi-hat pad is assigned to the correct instrument (e.g., HH Edge, HH Tip).

You're Ready to Play!

Your hi-hat should now respond dynamically and naturally across open, closed, and in-between positions.
Enjoy smoother grooves and tighter control on your 2BOX setup!
